Back up your data.

We would recommend you to back up your important data and files to an external hard drive or cloud storage service. Installing a new operating system might overwrite your data.
Create an Install Drive.
To create an Install Drive of Zorin OS, you will need your USB drive and an app called balenaEtcher.
- Insert the USB drive into your computer.
- Open balenaEtcher and press 'Select image' to choose your downloaded Zorin OS '.iso' file.
- balenaEtcher should automatically select your USB drive, but please make sure that it has selected the correct drive.
- Press 'Flash!' to begin writing Zorin OS to the USB drive.
- After a few minutes, the USB drive will be ready for booting into Zorin OS.
Boot from the Install Drive.
In order to install Zorin OS, you must boot your computer from the USB Install Drive.
- Make sure that the written USB Install Drive is plugged into your computer.
- Switch the computer on.
- On a PC. Immediately upon startup, press the indicated key repeatedly to open the Boot Menu. If you are unsure which key to press, it is usually either Esc, F12 or another function key. From the Boot Menu, select the option with 'USB' in its title to boot from the Install Drive.
- On a Mac. Immediately upon startup, press and hold the Option key. Now, select the USB Install Drive as the boot drive. Sometimes the Install Drive might be incorrectly identified as 'Windows', which is normal.
- You should now see the Zorin OS welcome menu. Please use the ↑↓ keys to select 'Check installation medium for defects' and press Enter to verify that your USB Install Drive is ready to use.
- After running the check, select the 'Try or Install Zorin OS' option from the Zorin OS welcome menu.
- If you have a modern NVIDIA graphics card. You can select the 'Try or Install Zorin OS (modern NVIDIA drivers) ' in order to boot and install with the official NVIDIA proprietary graphics drivers.
Note: The NVIDIA version 418 proprietary drivers are used.
- If you have a modern NVIDIA graphics card. You can select the 'Try or Install Zorin OS (modern NVIDIA drivers) ' in order to boot and install with the official NVIDIA proprietary graphics drivers.
Install your New Copy of Zorin OS.
Complete the installation of your new copy of Zorin OS.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to start the installation.
- When prompted, please connect to the Internet (if possible) in order to make sure all necessary software is downloaded during the installation process.
- You should reach a step titled 'Installation type'.
- If you want to keep your current operating system installed alongside Zorin OS. Select the 'Install Zorin alongside [your other operating system] ' option and press 'Next' to choose how much space to allocate to Zorin OS.
- If you only want to have Zorin OS installed on your computer. Select the 'Erase disk and install Zorin' option and press 'Install Now'.
- Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
Zorin OS is a stylish Linux-based operating system that allows you to choose the look and feel of your desktop and background. For instance, if you like the look and feel of Windows 7, then you can choose the Windows 7 theme. If you prefer OSX, then you can go with the standard OSX theme.
You'll need the following to create a bootable Zorin OS USB drive:
- A USB drive
- Zorin OS ISO
Download the ISO File for Zorin OS
Download the latest version of Zorin OS. You will be asked to select either the 64-bit or 32-bit version. Most likely you will want to download the 64-bit version; however, if your computer is older and has less than 2GB of RAM, you may need to use the 32-bit version. The process for creating a USB drive is the same for each version.

Format the USB Drive
- Insert the USB drive into an available USB slot on your computer.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Right-click on the USB drive and select Format from the menu.
- In the box that appears, choose FAT32 as the file system and check the Quick Format box.
- Click Start.
Install Win32 Disk Imager
Download the Win32 Disk Imager. Double-click the downloaded file and follow these steps for installation:

- At the welcome screen, click Next.
- Read and accept the license agreement and click Next.
- Choose where to install Win32 Disk Imager by clicking Browse and selecting a location. Click Next.
- Choose where to create the Start Menu folder and click Next.
- If you wish to create a desktop icon (recommended), leave the box checked and click Next.
- Click Install.
Create the Zorin USB Drive
- Insert the USB drive into an available USB slot on your computer.
- Double-click the Win32 Disk Imager desktop icon.
- Make sure the drive letter is the same as the one for your USB drive.
- Click the folder icon and navigate to the Downloads folder.
- Change the file type to Show all files.
- Choose the Zorin OS ISO downloaded previously.
- Click Write.
Turn Off Fast Boot
You only need to do turn off fast boot if you are using a computer with the UEFI boot loader. Windows 7 users are unlikely to need to take this step.
To be able to boot Zorin on a machine running Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, you need to turn off fast boot.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Click Power Options.
- Click Choose what the power button does.
- Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Download Zorin Os
Windows: Open and Extract the ISO Image
Open the ISO image with Windows by right-clicking the file and selecting Open With, and then Windows Explorer.
If you are using older versions of Windows, the ISO image may not open with Windows Explorer. You will need to use a tool such as 7Zip to open the ISO image.
Extract the files to the USB drive in Windows by following these steps:
- Click the Select All button within Windows Explorer.
- Choose Copy To.
- Select Choose Location.
- Select your USB drive.
- Click Copy.
How to Boot From the USB Drive
If you are running Windows 8, a Windows 10 PC upgraded from Windows 8, or a brand-new Windows 10 computer, hold down the Shift key and reboot the computer — continue holding down the Shift key. Then, choose to boot from the EFI USB drive.
To boot from the USB drive if you're running Windows 7, simply leave the USB drive plugged in and reboot the computer.
Ubuntu: Open and Extract the ISO Image
Install Zorin Os 12
Open the ISO image with Ubuntu by right-clicking the file and selecting Open With and then Archive Manager.
Follow these steps to extract the files to the USB drive with Ubuntu:
